Integrating Plant Systematics Zarucchi, James L. [1]. Flora of North America north of Mexico: springboard or foundation? Volumes in the Flora of North America series provide the first ever taxonomic and floristic syntheses for most of the taxa in the region covered, North America north of Mexico. The work required to develop these syntheses is extensive and time-consuming, as the many contributors, reviewers, and editors can attest. The volumes themselves contain a wealth of information, for example carefully verified names that are linked to parallel descriptions, identification keys, state –level distribution information. This information can, and should, be used to develop even better resources either for the region as a whole or for parts of the area. The Flora of North America Association will, to the extent that it can, assist such projects by making available digital extracts from the resources developed as part of the project.
