The Use of RAPDs for Assessment of Identity of Quercus.

The "Emancipation Oak", a Quercus virginiana, is located in Hampton, Virginia. It has been noted as both a State and National Historic landmark. According to local historians, there are several trees that have been vegatatively propagated in the Hampton Roads, VA area from "the Emancipation Oak". We used fifteen arbitrary decamers to determine the genetic relationship of several species of Quercus virginiana that had been reported to be related genetically to the "Emancipation Oak."
