Experimental studies on genotoxic pesticides in m1 generation.

The present investigation deals with genotoxic effects of three pesticides namely-captaf (a fungicide ), endosulfan (an insecticide) and atrazine (a weedicide) on two varieties of pea, namely swarnarekha and arkel. Three concentration of the pesticides were used for treatments were (a) normal concentration as used for controlling the pest under field condition ( which was designated as “medium” dose), (b) one fifth of the normal concentration (which was designated as “low” dose) and (c) five times the normal concentration (which was designated as “high” dose). Seeds of the two pea varieties were pre-soked in distilled water for 6 hours followed by treatment of respective dose of each of the three pesticides . the control seeds were treated with distilled water .part of each treated seeds lot was allowed to germinate in petridish under laboratory condition for cytological study of root meristem and for root/shoot ratio studios, while the other lot was shown in the field in four replication in randomize block design. Normal agro-nomical procedures were followed to raise the crops in the M1 generation . The following results were found for M1generation. Germination-: rate of initial Germination were relatively higher in variety- swarnarekha than arkel but, final germination count were comparable in both the varieties. The Germination prcentage under various treatments were slightly lower than respective control; but the difference was non-significant. Survival percentage: an inverse relationship observed between the treatment doses and Survival percentage for all the agro-chemicals in both the variety captaf treatment of variety- swarnarekha.
