This paper reports on the plants used in 20 different regions of Turkey for liver protecting activity. The information was derived by interviewing local people. In the survey conducted since 1985, 33 species belonging to 20 families have been determined for this activity. Plants of the family Asteraceae proved to be the most predominant group with this indication (27%). It is followed by Rosaceae (12%). Matricaria chamomilla, Petroselinum sativum, Apium graveolens and Silybum marianum are the most commonly used plants with liver protecting activity all over Turkey. Plants belonging to other families have shown a more even distribution. The reported uses are in harmony with the reported biological activities of the respective plants. The results are given in tables. Log in to add this item to your schedule
